AMMLA CHARTER

The first meeting of the Executive Association of Masonic Museums in Europe was held in Bayreuth at the initiative of the Chairmen of the German Masonic Museum, Past Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the A.F.u.A.M (Antient Free and Accepted Masons) of Germany, Dr. Rolf Ullmann, and Director of the Museum, Herbert Schneider.

The declared objective is to network Masonic archives, libraries and collections together within Europe, to arrange exchanges and to make them available for Masonic research. Each year a working meeting is held, experiences are discussed and common projects at a European level are developed. So far this has lead to major international exhibitions in Vienna, Brussels and Tours.

The Museum's archives are open to researchers from all over the world and are put to full use. The focus of the Network of European Masonic Museums could in the future be the European Masonic Research and Documentation Centre in Tours in France. Currently a permanent exhibition with room for students and researchers is being set up.

The Working Group maintains good scholarship contact with the Masonic Library and Museum Association in Washington, USA.
